Last month’s query An 8˝ years old boy presenting with recurrent fever, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hypernatremia with normal serum antidiuretic hormone levels and abnormal renal function tests had several replies. The authors have replied that the child has been treated as a Partial Diabetes Insipidus as the serum ADH is normal inspite of hypernatremia when one would expect it to be high

Query: A one month old child born to an HIV infected mother with twice HIV DNA PCR positive and negligible HIV Viral load. What is the HIV status of the child?
Answer:The child is HIV negative. False positives with HIV DNA PCR are known due to its high sensitivity. Most of our viewers have answered this query correctly. Discuss this case further in the section of “DISCUSSION GROUPS”.
