Mitochondrial damage to the liver due to antenatal exposure to zidovudine was postulated by one of our viewers. The author has replied back stating that the lactate level was indeed high. Once this child was started on Carnitine and Thiamine supplements, the liver enzymes have fallen. Thus it seems to be mitochondrial damage due to ART.
